My story
My interest in art started when I was a child. I always loved drawing, painting and making things. I was encouraged in my creative pursuits by my family. After an art baccalaureate in France I studied textile design. I came to live in London and trained to become a make-up artist. I have worked in the photographic, advertising, film and music industry all my working life. The art fitted around the make-up work and vice versa.
I started printmaking in 1998 at the Slade School of Art. The process felt like magic and I immediately became addicted. Each print presented slight differences, each one with a new and exciting result. I use mainly zinc metal plates and mix traditional printmaking techniques, drypoint, etching, aquatint and monoprinting. I also use watercolours and collage (chine collé) to create layers of colours or textures. I discovered linocut printmaking 18 months ago and started learning and also experimenting with block printing and woodcut. My favourite papers to print on are made by Somerset, Fabriano and I use Japanese paper for all my relief printmaking.
Colours, textures and line drawings play an important role in my work. My textile design background has left me with a love of pattern making and circles are a recurring theme. I also find inspiration from nature as I live in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside. I love plants and flowers as they offer an endless source of ideas for making art.
